ABOUT Dr. Mee Young Sowa
I am Mee Young Sowa, I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I am both a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), licensed and board certified. I have a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Virginia.
I taught in high school, and I have been teaching nursing in several colleges (James Madison University the most recent). I also have been a cardiology nurse for the last 20 years. Throughout my career, I have taught my students, patients and their families about health promotion and recovery. I love working with patients of all ages, especially children and adolescents, and adults, with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
I am from a military family. My daughter is an active-duty Air Force psychiatrist and my husband retired from the Air Force and Army National Guard. This has had a profound impact on me as I have observed the issues of members of the armed forces, motivating me to seek suicide and substance abuse prevention.
As a provider, I address the client's spiritual distress and existential suffering in order to instill hope and promote healing.
